Scientific Programme

ABSTRACT DRIVEN SESSIONS

The Scientific Programme is comprised of nine Tracks (A-I). Abstract driven sessions are either specific to one of the Tracks or are composed of abstracts from different Tracks that focus on one theme.

Submitted abstracts go through a blind peer-review process, carried out by a panel of international reviewers who are selected by members of the Scientific Programme

Committee.

Oral Abstract Sessions

Oral Abstract Sessions are organized into themes which address new developments in each of the seven scientific Tracks, or focused on a topic which crosses various Tracks.
Oral Poster Discussion Sessions

These sessions consist of four to six oral presentations followed by a moderated discussion.

Poster Exhibition

Abstracts accepted as Posters are to be displayed by Track for the duration of the conference. Presenters are be scheduled to stand by their posters at specified times to answer questions and provide further information on their study results.

NON-ABSTRACT DRIVEN SESSIONS

​​​ICAAP12 features non-abstract driven sessions addressing a range of current and emerging issues. The format and focus of these sessions will vary.

Plenary Sessions

Plenary sessions feature distinguished AIDS researchers, activists, leaders, policy makers and specialists. Plenary sessions bring together all conference delegates for the first session of every morning.

Symposia

Symp ​osia sessions are for the dissemination of information and creating awareness on a wide range of HIV/AIDS-related topics and issue through substantive interactions between Symposia presenters and ICAAP12 participants. ICAAP12 will feature symposia sessions that are either selected based on the submission of a proposal; or identified as a symposia session by the Scientific Programme Committee.

Skills Building Workshops                                                   

Skills building workshops are designed by the Scientific Programme Committee or by organisations and individuals who have submitted a proposal to the Scientific Programme Committee. The workshops promote learning and skill development to strengthen the capacities of participants to plan, implement or advocate for effective HIV and AIDS policies and interventions in their respective communities.

Satellite Meetings             

Satellite meetings will be organized and operated by proposing host organizations to address critical issue on HIV and AIDS and the response. Satellite meetings will reflect the theme of ICAAP12 – Be the change for an AIDS free generation: Our right to health.

The content of satellite sessions will be reviewed by the Scientific Programme Committee to ensure that they meet the scientific and ethical principles of ICAAP12. Satellite meetings will be held:

  • Prior to the main Congress (i.e., prior to 20 November 2015);
  • During the main Congress (typically held during the breakfast, lunch hour and evenings);
  • Following the close of the main Congress.

Non-abstract Driven Session Application

To apply for a Satellite Session or Skills Building Workshop, please compose an expression of interest, that is no longer than two pages, that will be submitted to the ICAAP12 Executive Committee for consideration.​

The main points to include in the expression of interest are:

  • Possible speakers
  • Anticipated number of attendees
  • Which track the subject falls under
  • Other requirements for the session (special food requirements, equipment, access)
